Allow Editors to Submit Manuscripts

Publications may allow Editors to submit manuscripts. These submissions may include manuscripts for peer review or non-reviewed editorial content, such as editorials, notices and announcements, classified ads, and other staff-generated content.

When this feature is enabled, an Editor (with permission) may use the Submit a Manuscript link on the main navigation to launch the Editor version of the submission interface. The Editor must complete the presented submission steps.

For Editor use information, see Editors May Submit Manuscripts.

Once submitted, the manuscript can follow the standard editorial review process with the Editor recorded as the Corresponding Author. Alternatively, the submission may be accepted immediately (final disposition is set to Accept on Submission) without going through the standard editorial process.

If an Editor begins but does not complete a submission or builds but does not approve the PDF, the submission moves to the Editor's Editorial Submissions in Progress folder. Submissions in this folder are not yet submitted to the publication. (This folder is equivalent to a combination of the Author folders, Submissions Waiting for Author's Approval and Incomplete Submissions.)

"Editor Use Only" Article Types

Publications can configure Article Types marked as "Editor Use Only" and limit Editors to submitting manuscripts of these types. These Article Types are not available for Author use and may only be used by Editors when either submitting a manuscript as an Editor or when editing a manuscript submitted by an Author.

"Editor Use Only" Article Types have the following additional functionality:

Note: If an "Editor Use Only" Article Type is configured to require Other Authors to register and/or verify, the Author Notice letter is not sent automatically when the final disposition is set to Accept on Submission. Editors can trigger this letter manually if so desired.

"Accept on Submission" option

Editors may be permitted to set the final disposition to "Accept on Submission" for "Editor Use Only" Article Types even if they do not have the general RoleManager permission, Set Final Disposition.

After the Editor approves the PDF, the system displays two options for moving the submission forward:

Selecting Submit and Set Final Disposition to Accept takes the Editor through the standard transmittal process. As part of this, the system:

After the Editor completes the transmittal process, the submission moves to the All Submissions with Final Disposition: Accept folder.
