Many Authors (in fields including physics, mathematics, and computer science) post their research on the arXiv server as a resource for other researchers. These Authors may opt to submit their work later for publication.
Publications can enable functionality that allows files to be uploaded directly from an arXiv database (arxiv.org). This feature is applied by Article Type.
When an Author selects an Article Type for which the feature is enabled, the Attach Files submission step includes the option to provide files from the arXiv server. The Author must provide the file's unique arXiv identifier.
This function is not available when submitting revisions, as an Author would not re-upload the submission from the arXiv database. Already submitted files that do not require revision can be carried forward, and the Author will be required to upload only revised files.
Note: Most documents on the arXiv server are in LaTeX format. To assist Authors who may not be sure which Submission Item Types to select for various arXiv file components (such as .bbl, .cls, .sty, etc.), Submission Item Types that describe these components (Bibliography file, Style File, etc) can be created. This is not necessary for the file upload, but it does make the selection of Submission Items clearer to the Author. For details on creating Submission Item Types, see Define Submission Item Types.
Go to PolicyManager > Submission Policies > Edit Article Types. Click the Edit link next to an existing Article Type (or make the following configuration when creating a new Article Type).
On the Add/Edit Article Type page, check the box to the setting, Allow file uploads from arXiv.org server. When finished, click Submit. For details on Article Type configuration, see Configure Article Types.
Note: Changes to configuration of an existing Article Type are not applied retroactively. New configurations will not affect submissions in process. They will apply only to submissions initiated after the configuration change.
