To increase system security for users, publications may include the use of security questions in user registration. When this feature is enabled, users must choose a security question (from a configured list) and enter its associated unique answer as part of the registration process. A user cannot complete registration without providing this required information.
The security question/answer is used as part of the password reset process (if a user forgets his or her password). The user must correctly answer the question in order to complete the reset process. This added layer of security helps ensure that only the actual account owner is able to reset the password.
Users who are registered via proxy must choose a question/answer combination after their initial login. Only the owner of an account may choose/change a security question/answer combination. The user may make changes to security questions/answers on the Update My Information page. Security question and answer data cannot be viewed or accessed via proxy.
Contact your Aries Account Coordinator to enable this feature. After it is enabled, all users will be prompted to choose a security question/answer at their next login (for existing accounts) or during initial user registration.
