Publications may provide graphical flags that enable users with permission to mark People records. Users with Editor and Publisher roles may have permission to view, turn on, and/or turn off flags.
People flags and the icon to set them are displayed next to names in most commonly used folders. One or more flags can be set to display for a People record. Roll over a flag to see hover text that shows the name of the flag, or click the flag to open the Flag Legend pop-up window.
Editors with search permission and permission to view People flags may also use People Flag Name as a search criterion in Search People, Search for Authors, Search for Reviewers, and for Editor searches.
Note: People Flag Name is not available as a criterion when searching IJRS-linked publications.
Users with permission to set flags see a flag icon next to names in the system. A People Flags pop-up window shows icon and name for all configured People flags. Users with permission may turn flags on and off via this window.
To set a flag:
A user may have permission only to turn on flags (once set, the checkbox is read-only) or only to turn off flags (checkbox is not displayed for flags that have not been set). Users with both permissions may both select and deselect the checkbox setting.
Note: The flag feature requires that a user's browser have an installed font that includes Unicode characters (Arial Unicode MS). Most Windows and Macintosh machines have this font installed. Without this font some of the flag characters will appear as square boxes.
