A publication may request or require Other Authors (aka Contributing Authors, Co-authors) to confirm co-authorship of a manuscript. It may also require them to register (create a user account) on the publication site.
Co-authors may receive an email notification from the publication. The email contains clickable deep links to verify co-authorship or to decline co-authorship. Depending on publication configuration, the deep links may take the user to a landing page first to confirm that a human user has clicked the link (this feature shields the deep links from email security systems automatically clicking the link and accepting or declining without the recipient being aware).
After Co-authors have registered and confirmed co-authorship, the publication may allow them to view the status of the submission as it goes through the editorial process. (This visibility is not available if the publication has not required Co-authors to register and verify.) To view the submission log in to the publication site and access the Author Main Menu.
The submission may appear in one of several folders, depending on its status in the editorial process. These folders are:
The Authorship column shows the user's relationship to the submission: Corresponding Author or Other Author. Editorial status and related dates may appear (depending on publication configuration).
Verification of co-authorship may include completing a questionnaire. The questionnaire is presented when the Co-author uses the deep link to verify co-authorship sent in the email notification.
If the user does not answer all questions at the initial viewing, responses can be saved (click Save for Later). Then the user may access the questionnaire again later by using the same deep link in the notification email.
Co-authors who have verified their contribution, registered on the publication site, and completed the questionnaire may view (but not edit) their own answers by clicking the View Questionnaire Responses link in the Submissions Being Processed or Revisions Being Processed folder.
