The publication site may have a login box on the home page. If not, click Login at the top right corner of the page.

Standard login

Enter username and password in the text boxes. Click the login button for your role (Author, Reviewer, Editor, Publisher).

If you enter username and password and the Enter key on your keyboard, you will be logged in to your Author role by default, unless multiple roles are assigned to your user record, and a different role is selected in the Default Login Role list on your Update My Information Page.

Single sign-on via ORCID

Publication sites may be configured to allow users to sign on using their ORCID record. This enables a user to access publication sites using only the ORCID username/password rather than having to remember login information for multiple sites.

Users who have an authenticated ORCID identifier (i.e., registered using ORCID as described above or authenticated an ORCID identifier for an existing record as described below) can log into the publication site using their ORCID username and password.

Click the ORCID icon to open a pop-up window that displays the login page for ORCID. Enter ORCID login information and sign into ORCID. If you are a first-time user, you will see a message that the publication (or Editorial Manager) has requested access to your ORCID record. Click Authorize. You will be logged in to the publication's EM site. Future logins will skip the authorization screen and go directly into Editorial Manager.

Single sign-on (SSO) with OpenID Connect authentication

Publication sites may be configured to require users to sign on using an organizational SSO. Clicking Login on the publication site will launch the login box for the SSO where users enter username and password. Users must have a user account on the SSO and on the publication’s EM site. First time users will be prompted to register on one or both.

Once SSO authentication has been confirmed, future logins will skip the authentication step and go directly into Editorial Manager. When a required SSO is enabled, users will not see the standard login box described elsewhere in this article. Questions about forgotten username or password should be directed to the SSO system.

First name, last name, and email address fields are automatically synchronized between the two user records at sign on. After synchronization they are not editable in EM. They appear grayed out on the Update My Information page. The three fields can be updated via the SSO user profile only and then will be resynchronized in the EM user record.

Forgot username or password

The login box includes a Send Login Details link for users who forget their username or password.

Click the link to open the Account Finder page. Enter your email and click the Send Login Details button. If the system finds a matching email address, you will receive an email containing your username and a link to reset your password.

If the system does not find a matching email address, and you know you have a user account, contact the publication office for assistance.
