Options for Initiating Production

Publications may opt to initiate production automatically or to have an Editor initiate production manually.

Automatically initiate production

Publications can configure the system to initiate production automatically when a submission's final disposition is set to an Accept term.

The system automatically initiates production after an Editor has confirmed the final step of the transmittal form process.

If the Editor completing the transmittal form process has the applicable permission (Allow Task Assignment and Assignment to Schedule Group when Initiating Production), the system will direct the user to the Initiate Production and Assign Production Task page. At this point the user can: assign the submission to a Schedule Group, assign a first submission task, or choose to not assign a task. If no task is assigned, the submission stays in the Production Initiated – No Tasks Assigned folder.

If the Editor completing the transmittal form process does not have the applicable permission, the system returns the user to the referring page. Production staff can locate the submission in the Production Initiated – No Tasks Assigned folder and perform task assignments.

Manually initiate production from All Submissions with Final Disposition folder

Publications must grant Editor roles permission to initiate production manually. Editors with the applicable permission (Initiate Production Manually) see an Initiate Production link in the Action column in the All Submissions with Final Disposition folder (and its sub-folders) and on the Search Submissions results page.

Assigning tasks after production is initiated

Editor roles with permission (Allow Task Assignment and Assignment to Schedule Group when Initiating Production) can assign tasks for a submission after production has been initiated either manually or automatically.

Editors with this permission proceed to the Initiate Production and Assign Production Task page after clicking the Initiate Production link (manual initiation) or after completing the transmittal form process (automatic initiation). On this page Editors can assign the submission to a Schedule Group, assign a first submission task, or choose to not assign a task and place the submission into the Production Initiated – No Tasks Assigned folder.

If the Editor completing the transmittal form process does not have this permission, the system returns the user to the referring page. Production staff can locate the submission in the Production Initiated – No Tasks Assigned folder and perform task assignments.
