You will receive an invitation to review via email (unless you have a non-email preferred method of contact on file with the publication). The email may contain clickable deep links to accept or to decline the invitation. Depending on publication configuration, the deep links may take the user to a landing page first to confirm that a human user has clicked the link (this feature shields the deep links from email security systems automatically clicking the link and accepting or declining without the recipient being aware).
Alternatively, you may log in and go to your New Reviewer Invitations folder. Use the appropriate Action link, Agree to Review or Decline Review, to respond.
Note: Two points about deep-link behavior that users should note. One: Because deep links appear in emails, the expected condition is that the user is not logged into the site when the link is clicked; the link will not work if the user is already logged in (or if another user is already logged into the site on the same computer). Two: Because most deep links are configured to expire, it is recommended that users not bookmark a page reached via a deep link. (The bookmark will capture the expiration information.)
Use the deep link or Action link to accept an invitation. This notifies the editorial office of your response and moves the item to your Pending Assignments folder.
You may decline an invitation to review via the deep link or Action link, which takes you to the Decline Review page. A comment box appears on this page, and you are asked to suggest other potential Reviewers. Enter the names and contact details for colleagues who might be qualified to review in your place. You must click Submit on this page to confirm that you are declining the invitation and to notify the editorial office of your response.
In some cases a Reviewer may be assigned rather than invited to review. If you are assigned a review, you will receive an email notification of the assignment.
The assignment goes directly to your Pending Assignments folder.
