Register and Invite New Author

When inviting Authors (for a Commentary or Proposal), Editors with permission have the option to proxy register a new Author. This option is available for both Authors and alternate Authors. The Author Selection Summary page displays the applicable link, depending on the search type:

These links facilitate the quick registration of a prospective Author without having to exit the invitation interface. The Editor can proxy register the person using minimal contact information and immediately send an invitation email, or select the Author as an alternate.

To register and invite new Author:

On the Author Selection Summary page or the Search for Authors page, click Register and Invite New Author. This opens the proxy registration page.
Enter the email address of the Author you are registering.
Enter the name of the Author.
Complete all other required fields (as configured by the publication).
Click Register User and Send Letter. This opens the Customize Proxy Registration Letter page.
Review letter contents and edit as needed. This letter notifies the user of registration.
Click Send Letter.
On the Proxy Registration Complete Confirmation page, click the link, Invite this Author to submit [manuscript number]. This opens the Select Authors – Confirm Selection and Customize Letters page. The following steps are the same as with other Author selection options.
Use the drop-down menu to select an invitation letter (if more than one is available).
Optional: Click the Customize link to edit the templated letter.
A text box may appear under the letter dropdown. Enter any invitation notes to the Author. (These are accessible to the Author via a link in several Author folders and to Editors in the Invited Authors section of the Details page (of the proposal or "parent" submission). They may also be included in invitation letters by using the %INVITATION_NOTES_TO_AUTHOR% merge field.)
Click Submit.

Note: A Do Not Invite checkbox allows the inviting Editor to exclude an Author on the selected results list. This may be used if the Editor has reconsidered an Author choice and does not want to invite that Author to submit.

To register and select as alternate Author:

On the Search for Alternate Authors page, click Register and Select as Alternate. This opens the proxy registration page.
Follow the steps above (for register and invite new Author).

On the Proxy Registration Complete Confirmation page, the link text reads, Select this person as an Alternate Author for [manuscript number].
