Sanitize Attachments

A publication may opt to sanitize attachments. Sanitization applies only to Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and PDF files. When this option is enabled, the system makes a copy of the attachment uploaded by a Reviewer or Editor and removes identifying information from the Properties (or Get Info) panel of an eligible file and the author value from comments made in tracked changes. The sanitized file is the version made available to Authors.

Publications may also opt to provide Reviewers access to sanitized attachments only. If a sanitized version is not available and the user viewing the attachment is required to view the sanitized version, the system makes the sanitized copy when the user clicks the Download link.

To configure:

To enable the Attachments feature, contact your Aries Account Coordinator.

Go to PolicyManager > ProduXion Manager > Configure Attachment Security.

Settings in the Sanitization section govern creation of sanitized attachment files and access to them.

  1. Remove Personal Information from Editor/Reviewer Attachments in Microsoft Office or PDF format: Check this box to enable the system to produce a sanitized version of attachment files.
    1. Allow other Reviewers access only to Attachments with personal information removed: Check the box next to this setting to restrict access.

Check the box for one or both settings as appropriate and click Submit.
