Secure Permissions for Viewing and Editing People Data

Editor roles may be granted permission to search and view user records. Additional permissions provide publications greater control over the access granted for editing information on the Search People – Update Information page.

TO CONFIGURE:

Go to RoleManager > Editor Role. Grant permissions to the applicable Editor roles:

  1. Search People: Must be checked before sub-permissions can be granted.
    1. Send Username and Password: Allows the Editor to send a user's login details by clicking a Send Login Details button displayed on the Search People – Update Information page (to trigger the letter configured for the Forgot Username or Password event).
    2. Change ORCID iD: Allows the Editor to fetch, manually enter, edit, or delete a non-Authenticated ORCID identifier in to a user record. (This helps ensure that non-Authenticated ORCID identifiers are not entered into the system.)
    3. Change Email Address: Allows the Editor to edit a user's email address. When the permission is not enabled, the email address field is not editable. (This safeguards against an Editor changing the email to his own email address, which would allow that Editor to receive the Forgot Username and Password email.)
    4. Change Preferred Method of Contact: Allows the Editor to select a radio button to indicate the user's preferred contact method. When the permission is not enabled, only the preferred method appears with no selection enabled. (This prevents the Editor from redirecting the user's email to the publication's email address that receives all email correspondence sent to people that do not have email set as their preferred method of contact.)
    5. Change Editor Role Designation: Allows the Editor to select from a drop-down menu of all Editor roles to change the user's role designation.
    6. Change Publisher Role Designation: Allows the Editor to select from a drop-down menu of all Publisher roles to change the user's role designation.
    7. View Personal Correspondence History: Allows the Editor to access a person's Correspondence History via a Correspondence History link on the Search People - Search Results page.
