Set Maximum Size for Uploaded Files

Publications may set a limit for the maximum file size allowed for uploaded Submission Item files. If a limit is set, Authors and Editors cannot upload a file larger than the configured size limit. This limit applies to all uploaded files. A file that exceeds the limit is not attached to the submission, and the user sees the message: File not uploaded: exceeds maximum file size of X MB.

Publications are charged a transaction fee based on the size of the uploaded and downloaded files. The View File Transfers Statistics report, available in AdminManager, allows publications to track file upload and download statistics. This report shows the number of and total size for all uploaded files and all downloaded files over a specified time period.

Note: Editorial Manager has a system maximum file size of 500 MB per submission item.

To configure:

Go to PolicyManager > Submission Policies > Set Maximum Size of Uploaded File.

  1. Enter a whole number in the text box (indicated by X below).
    • Maximum File Size: X MB
  2. Click Submit.
