A publication can allow users the option to sign in to Editorial Manager via the ORCID website, using their ORCID username and password instead of an EM username and password. This feature displays an ORCID icon on the publication's login page.
Clicking the icon takes users to the ORCID site to verify their credentials and confirm the ORCID identifier to use. Once verified, users are returned to EM and logged in.
EM users who have already authenticated an ORCID identifier with their EM user account can sign in with their ORCID credentials immediately by clicking the ORCID icon. Users who have not previously authenticated their ORCID identifier are asked to sign in (or register) normally. This process automatically authenticates their ORCID identifier with their new EM account. On future visits, they will be able to log in via ORCID.
Single sign-on via ORCID provides efficient access for the user. If the user remains signed in to the ORCID website, s/he can access multiple EM sites during that session and not have to enter login identification information again (if the feature is enabled on the other EM sites).
EM also uses this setting to allow users to switch to an existing record when it retrieves an ORCID identifier and finds that the identification already exists in the EM system. During registration via ORCID, this can prevent a duplicate registration. During manuscript submission, this alerts the Corresponding Author to a prior registration and allows a switch to the existing account before completing the submission.
Note: The user's ORCID password is never exposed to EM. The user is asked to sign in to ORCID and authorize the login, and then the ORCID site provides EM with the ORCID identifier to use via a secure channel.

Go to PolicyManager > Registration and Login Policies > Configure Login Page. Check the box next to Login via ORCID and click Submit.
