URL/URI Validation

A submission item can be configured to allow Corresponding Authors to provide a URL for a file hosted on an external system rather than uploading the file directly to EM. This is helpful when the item is a large dataset or a file in an online repository.

A Preview button enables the Author to check the URL and confirm that it resolves to a valid page or file. Publications can require that the Author click the Preview button to perform this confirmation.

In addition, publications can also configure the submission item so that the system automatically performs a validation on the URL.

These settings apply on all pages that allow file upload.

To configure:

Go to PolicyManager > Submission Policies > Edit Submission Items. Create a new Submission Item or select an existing one.>

On the Add/Edit Submission Item Type page, two settings related to this feature:

Validate URL/URI: Check the box to enable the system to validate the URL automatically.
Require user to click Preview button: Check the box to require the Author to preview the URL to confirm validity before attaching the submission item.

The settings function independently. One or both (or neither) may be enabled.
