Configure Proxy Functions

At times publication staff and/or Editors may be required to perform activities on behalf of another user. A RoleManager permission enables a publication to authorize users to do these activities by proxy.

For details on use, see Proxy Functions.

Increased security in proxy mode

Publications can limit user access to the following select administrative functions while in proxy mode:

TO CONFIGURE:

Four RoleManager settings grant proxy power by Role Family. An Editor may be given proxy power that is limited to a certain Role Family or for all Role Families (allowing for full proxy power).

Go to RoleManager > Editor Role. Grant permissions to the applicable Editor roles:

  1. Proxy Power: Allows user to function in proxy for other user roles as defined by the sub-permissions.
    1. Allow Proxy for Users Who Have Never Logged In: Select this radio button to allow proxy for all user roles, even before a user's first login.
    2. Prevent Proxy for Users Who Have Never Logged In: Select this radio button to limit proxy before a user's first login.
    3. Use checkboxes to select role families that Editors with this role may perform proxy activities for:
      1. Proxy for Authors
      2. Proxy for Reviewers
      3. Proxy for Editors
      4. Proxy for Publishers

Note:These checkbox permissions define proxy power by role famliy, not by individual role. For example, editorial staff cannot be given proxy power for one type of Editor and not for a different type of Editor.
