Create Custom Review Questions

Publications may present custom questions for Reviewers to answer on the Reviewer Recommendation and Comments page when they submit their reviews. Custom questions may also be presented to Editors on the Decision and Comments page when they submit their decisions.

Go to PolicyManager > Reviewer and Editor Form Policies > Custom Review Questions for Editors and Reviewers > Create/Edit Custom Review Questions.

The Create Custom Review Questions page displays a list of all the questions that have been configured. To create a new question, click the Add button. To edit an existing question, click the Edit link next to it.

The Add/Edit Custom Review Question page includes the following settings:

Question: Enter the question in the text box.

Instructions for Reviewer or Editor Response: Enter any guidance text in the text box.

Hide: Check this box to make the question unavailable for future use. (Deactivated questions appear grayed-out on the main Create Custom Review Questions page.)

Available for Decision Letter Merging: Check this box to enable both the question and the Editor or Reviewer's answer to merge into the decision letter, using several available merge fields:

Response Type: Use the drop-down list to designate the type of response to be provided by the Reviewer. (Response types are: text, date, integer, decimal, notes, list, Yes/No, Yes/No/NA, Yes/No/text.)

Minimum Field Length: Enter a value in the text box. (The value must be less than the maximum field length.)

Maximum Field Length: Enter a value in the text box from 1 to 200.

Default Value for Field: Use the radio button to select a default value option:

When finished, click Submit.

After review questions are created, they must be associated with review forms and/or Editor forms. For details, see Create Review Forms and Create Editor Forms.

If question is configured to merge into Decision letter, one or more of the merge fields listed above must be added to the letter template. For details how each of these merge fields functions, see Submission information merge fields.
