Submit a Review

After accepting an invitation (or being assigned) to review, you can access the manuscript for review in your Pending Assignments folder on the Reviewer Main Menu. When you are ready to submit the review, return to the Pending Assignments folder.

Click the Submit Recommendation link to open the Reviewer Recommendation and Comments page. Items that appear on this page depend on publication configuration.

Possible sections:

Reviewer Instructions: The page may display either a section called Reviewer Instructions or a button labeled Reviewer Instructions. Click the button to open a pop-up window where instructions appear.

Recommendation: Use the drop-down list to select your recommendation.

Overall Manuscript Rating: Enter a number (within the indicated range).

Review Questions: For each question, enter a response in the box provided. An Instructions link may appear next to the question. Click to open a pop-up window with instructions specific to the question.

Manuscript Rating: Use the radio button to indicate your response(s).

Reviewer Comments to Author: Use the text box to enter any comments for the Author. (These are sent to the Author.)

Reviewer Confidential Comments to Editor: Use the text box to enter any comments to the Editor, e.g., additional information supporting your recommendation. (These are not shared with the Author.)

Note: To take advantage of word processing features (e.g., spell-check, bullets, numbering), you may want to write your review comments in your regular word processing program (e.g., Microsoft Word). Then copy and paste the comments into the boxes provided.

Transfer Authorization: Use the radio button to indicate your response(s). An Instructions link may appear. Click to open a pop-up window with instructions related to transfer authorization.

Four or five buttons appear at top and bottom of the page:

When ready, click Proceed. After checking the review, you may Edit Review, Print (a copy for your records), or Submit to Editorial Office.

When you click Submit to Editorial Office, you will see a confirmation message that the review has been submitted.

Note: Reviewers using Editorial Manager will need Adobe Acrobat Reader (a PDF reader) to access submission documents. Acrobat Reader can be downloaded here: get.adobe.com/reader
